From Uncertainty to Reliability — A True Transformation for a Remote Community
project-location: Somaliland · Challenge: Difficult, Unreliable Water Access
For years, this remote community in Somaliland faced a harsh reality: water was difficult,
unpredictable, and exhausting to access.
Families walked long distances under extreme heat to fetch water from shallow, unreliable
sources. During dry seasons, the struggle intensified — queues grew longer, water quality
dropped, and residents often had to choose between unsafe water or no water at all.
The borehole they depended on held great potential, but without electricity and with fuel costs
rising, pumping that water became a challenge the community simply could not sustain. Many days,
the borehole remained idle. Water shortages became normal. Health risks increased. Livelihoods
suffered.
This was the struggle.
The Turning Point: A Solar-Powered Water Pumping System
Norwa Africa stepped in with a solution that transformed the community’s future: a solar-powered
water pumping system engineered to provide clean, reliable water every single day — without fuel,
without power cuts, and without the heavy financial burden of operating a generator.
This system now:
- Pumps clean water directly from the borehole using only energy from the sun
- Eliminates fuel costs, ensuring zero operational energy expenses
- Operates consistently, even in remote off-grid conditions
- Reduces time spent fetching water, especially for women and children
- Improves hygiene, health, and overall quality of life
- Cuts down the community’s carbon footprint, supporting greener living
What once was uncertain is now dependable. What once was a daily struggle is now a steady,
sustainable source of life.
